CNC Hotwire Cutter

Aim

  • X/Y Hotwire cutter - inspired by recent x/y cutter from 2 salvaged scanners on hackaday

Components

  • Arduino (5v)
  • Lexmark X74
    • Scanner head stepper + belt and rail
    • Paper feed stepper motor + printer belt and rail
    • A3966SLB dual H-bridge SOIC
  • L239D IC
  • Nichrome wire
  • Coat hanger to create 'arm'
  • Laptop/Computer

Status

  • Ordered L239D to use with printer stepper motor
  • Interfaced with A3966SLB and have got scanner motor and belt working
  • Disassmbled printer/scanner

Jobs

  • Interface L239D with motor and arduino
  • Write code to control motors with arduino (input x/y coords over serial and cutter move to that position)
  • Write code to convert image to x/y coords
  • Make hotwire cutter
