Making a serial cable for breakout boards

To connect to the gumstix's ttl serial ports (usbnet doesn't work on the verdex models as they are usbhost rather then usbclients) it was necessary to make a cable and also voltage shift.

  • Usb-Serial Controller
  • Cable
    • I didn't want the cable to be permanent, I found that the gumstix holes are 0.05”, therefore you can still use them. Conveniently there is a set up of TxD, Vcc, RxD, gap, GnD, Txd, Vcc, the underlined ones are all separated by 0.1” so its possible to use 0.1” headers (I've got some machined headers from sparkfun which slots firmly into the correct holes.) These are soldered to wires that run to the voltage level shifter.
